$3 surcharge for non SCA members

Includes lunch and CD of the manuals being studied

Due to space considerations there are no other activities scheduled.  There is some room for non-participants.  Site is free but lunch will be an additional cost.

The Fight of George Silver

George Silver was an Elizabethan gentleman who in 1599 published “Paradoxes of Defense,” in which he decried the fad in England of training with and using rapiers.  Silver advocated instead the use of the traditional English weapons such as the short sword and buckler. This class will focus on the use of the short sword and adjunct weapons such as buckler and dagger.  This class has applications to SCA Armored Combat and Cut and thrust Combat.  Equipment needed for the class includes a fencing mask or helmet, side sword or single hand rattan sword, gloves, buckler and dagger for side sword or armored combat.

Swetnames Rapier and Dagger

Swetnam published his book “the school of the noble and worthy Science” in 1617.  It is the first book in English written by and Englishman which includes teachings on the use of the rapier.  This class with introduce the instructors interpretation of Swetname’s guards, blade and foot work for the rapier and dagger.  Equipment needed for the class includes a fencing mask, gloves, and a Rapier and dagger simulator.  This class has application to SCA Rapier and Cut and Thrust Combat.

 

Swetnam’s Single Rapier

This will focus on Swetnam’s use of the single rapier.  Equipment needed for the class includes a fencing mask, gloves, and a rapier simulator.  This class has applications to SCA Rapier and Cut and Thrust combat.
