A Romp at the Fort

September 9, 10, and 11.
Site opens 6 pm Friday and closes noon Sunday

We will have all day hands on classes in glass bead making, beginning blacksmithing, dying, middle eastern dancing and culture, baking in a period clay oven, how to be a feast o’crat, and more.

“The fight of George Silver” taught by Scott Crawford of the Bramble School of Defense.

 Slat beds available in the cabins (first come first serve / bring your own bedding) or space for camping outside the fort. (Site is wet. Campfires OK)

Site Fee: Youth (age 0-5) Free, (age 6-12) $3.50, (adults and children over 12) $7.00, $5.00 surcharge for non-members

Current Class List

**Inkin in Lincoln, all day scribal get together and workshop.  A relaxing day of scribal networking, socializing, skill improvement, and especially fun.  Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level, or interest.  Some of the classes will be structured; some will be open forum, so scribes can feel free to go up to teachers or other scribes and say “How’d you do that?”  For more information in Inkin’ n Lincoln, contact Mistress Ellen of the Scholars  cebaker at ilstu dot edu

**”The fight of George Silver” taught by Scott Crawford of the Bramble School of Defense.  This is an all day hands on workshop, on the works of George Silver.  Masks and swords are required.  Some loaner equipment is available.  For more information contact Maitre Philippe de Lyon  mandritta at yahoo dot com

**Period Dying Class.  This class will focus on using period techniques for dying fabric and yarn.  Each student can bring something to dye.  Maximum of eight students.  Please contact the autocrat (Maitre Philippe de Lyon) to reserve a spot.  Class taught by the Honorable Lady Elspeth Murielle.

** Middle eastern Dance, Drumming, and Culture.  We have an area dedicated to middle stern studies.  Dance classes will include beginning Middle Eastern dance, zills, veils, and basic drum rhythms.  Some loaner equipment will be available.  There will be a hafla after dinner.  All are welcome.  For more information please contact Mistress Alphia at rickalicebuzzard at yahoo dot com.

** Beginning Blacksmithing.  Kendrick Cameron This is a hands on class where you will learn basic black smith techniques while making an S hook.  We will be able to accommodate 12 students during the day.  Please sign up at the blacksmiths tent.  There is a 3 dollar fee to cover materials and fuel.

** Boiled Leather with Lord Carrek.   It will be a demonstration and lecture in the morning and in the afternoon you will be making leather circlets.

**Wood Working Tool Petting Zoo.  Master Avery will be hosting a woodworking tool petting zoo. Bring your questions, tools or projects.  All are welcome no matter the level of skill or interest.

**Bread Baking in a Clay Oven.  The Honorable lady Berengaria will be running a class on baking bread in a period style bread oven. The class will start at 10am and run through early afternoon.  There is no fee for the class as the bread will be used for feast.

**How to Run a Feast.   This is a hands on class that will run all day.  The Honorable Lady Catriona will discuss how to plan a menu, prepare a budget, buy food, and how to plan your day the day of feast.  You will then spend the afternoon helping to prepare feast using outdoor cooking methods.

In addition we have plenty of open space.  Bring your projects to work on and come for a wonderful day of Hands on Activities.

From I-255 go to Rt 143 ( Wood River / Edwardsville) and turn west toward Wood River. Go thru Wood River and over the railroad overpass. Just after the overpass will be a sign to the right for Camp DuBois.

From I-270 go to Rt 3 north toward Alton. After Hartford, turn right onto Rt 143 toward Wood River. Soon after turning onto Rt 143 there will be a sign on the left for Camp DuBois.
